Welcome to Manitou Springs' Climate Protection Campaign (CPC) website! The CPC is working to reduce 10% of Manitou Springs' carbon emissions by 2010.

With current world instability and deterioration of our environment and economic systems we can no longer stand aside and wait for world leaders to solve the problems. We have to work on a local level to do our part to improve the future. Money is tight these days for individuals, governments and businesses but that is not an excuse for inaction. The quality and stability of the future depends on action now.

Manitou Springs’ town leaders and citizens have dedicated themselves to find local solutions by changing our energy habits and reducing our carbon footprint. Our goal of 10% CO2 reduction by 2010 (2,335 tons) is a dramatic goal but with mutual support, participation and creative volunteerism we can accomplish it. Doing so makes our town a better place to live.

Manitou is now among the more than 420 cities in the US (the only one in southern Colorado) and 800 worldwide that belong to the Cities for Climate Protection of ICLEI,  an international membership association of local governments dedicated to addressing environmental issues.
